The Winston-Salem Journal, a Lee Enterprises company, has an open position for 2nd shift Production Supervisor. This position works directly with Platemaking, Pressroom and Mailroom to ensure on time production performance, as well as working with electrical/mechanical department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work as a liaison between departments, to ensure on time production performance
- Respectively communicate instructions to department supervisors, and lead operators
- Manage process and production work flow, report via email nightly, efforts and concerns
- Responsible for all newspaper and commercial print jobs produced in pressroom.
- Work closely with mailroom and platemaking to ensure timely production and deadlines.
- Accurately prepare nightly production reports per press run on a daily basis.
- Work diligently at reducing newsprint waste. Keep supply inventory.
- Communicate daily with newsprint warehouse, to ensure proper rolls of newsprint are staged for nightly run.
- Keep appropriate back copies of each edition as required by contract.
- If required perform any job in the production area if needed.
- Must be able to effectively communicate, to a diverse workforce
- Must have production experience, preferably print production
- Ability to trouble shoot production issues as they arise, and communicate solutions
- Ability to use time management experience, to accomplish goals, basic math knowledge
- Follow all company policies and procedures
- Have a high standard of attendance.
- Work when needed, expecting some longer shifts, if required.
- Must be able to operate a fork lift and clamp truck, floor jack.
- Basic computer spreadsheet and email for communicating and accounting.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to read and follow instructions
- Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with others
- Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to climb stairs and work in and around a printing press.
- Be willing to work in a production environment with exposure to ink, grease and paper dust.
- Be able to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds as needed.
